“The Precious Stones” – this is a common connotation by many people about gemstones and gem minerals. This is in line with the fact that many are yearning to own even only a single piece of these precious stones. What made these people so interested with gemstones? Likewise, how do these stones capture everyone’s attention, especially ensnaring every woman’s heart? Let us get the idea from one of the most famous gemstones in the world – Sapphire.

One of the most prominent gemstones is Sapphire. There are actually three of them that are deemed as the world’s well-known gemstones. This is with the inclusion of Emerald, Ruby, and not to mention, Sapphire stones. These three become as prominent as they are called so, because of several interesting factors. A feature that is extremely distinct from the rest of the sprouting gemstones in the beauty and fashion industry.

A Glimpse to the History of Sapphire Gemstones

It has been a common belief that gems bring magic, charm and good luck to anyone who gets a hold of them. Same connotation goes to the Sapphire gemstones.

Talking about magical gemstones, Sapphire realizes the essence. Hearing the word alone would let you foresee some sort of magical thought, embedded in such precious stone. Try to hear it one more time, Sapphire… doesn’t it sound magical? Delightful as it sounds, the reflection of Sapphire, likewise invokes a Sapphire blue flower, blue water and blue sky.

Sapphire depicts the concept of a blue color, per se the blue gem. Way back in the 18th century, blue gemstones belong to the hyacinth nomenclature. However, such classification was found out erroneous. It is recently revealed that Sapphire gemstone falls in the corundum categorization. And so, this is what we suppose. What’s more at present, Sapphire is already patented by other colors than just blue. This is together with yellow, violet, purple, pink and orange colors.

Sapphire has become even more prominent during the middles ages. It was during this period when Sapphire rings came to existence. The blue sapphire rings were greatly favored by the Clergy. The rationale behind this choice was their belief of Sapphire representing heaven. In one way or another, this strengthened their faith.

On the other hand, magicians utilized the sapphire stone to aid them in their quest to fight against evil, as well as to control spirits. These people also believed that Sapphire influences the healing of different kinds of sickness, likewise, in dealing with curses.

The influence of blue sapphire rings never ended on such epoch. Apparently at present, sapphire rings and jewelries still remain the enticing items that anyone wishes to own. In the United States, sapphire gemstone also bequeaths special adoration. As a matter of fact, prominent sapphires are flaunted in several American museums.

Gemstones have been used as adornments in jewelry and other items since for centuries. In early times, only royalty could afford gems but today nearly everyone can have a bauble with a gemstone or two in it. Here’s some information on seven gemstones favored by jewelry makers.

Amethyst

Amethyst is a type of quartz that comes in shades of purple. It is a highly accessible stone and used in all types of jewelry. This gemstone can vary greatly in quality and color and is the birthstone for the month of February. There are 14 different locations where Amethysts are abundantly found today.

Aquamarine

This light blue gemstone is the birthstone of March and is a favorite of jewelry designers today. It can range in shade from almost white to sky blue and can be rather expensive. This stone belongs to the beryl family of gemstones and is abundant in Brazil.

Bloodstone

The vivid red spots in this stone give it it’s name, but the stone itself is really green jasper. The spots come from iron oxide deposits within the stone. This stone was used in ancient times for many carvings and was a favorite of Christian martyrs. A German Emperors seal carved in
bloodstone is on display at the Louvre museum in Paris.

Emerald

One of the more expensive stones, this birthstone of May is the stone of love and life. One of the most popular gemstones of all time, it has been used in many crowns and scepters. Emeralds range in shades of green, but the deepest ones hold the most value and can even cost more than diamonds.

Opal

One of the most opulent gemstones, this stone is a combination of fiery colors like a rainbow of sparks. Opals are used in many different jewelry settings and are a favorite gemstone of jewelry wearers today. Originating from Australia, this stone has great history and lore.

Ruby

This red stone has long been associated with love, passion and power. One of the more precious stones, it is considered the King of gemstones and has been extensively used in crowns and jewelry of Kings, Queens and Emperors. Mined mainly in India, the finest rubies are quite rare and expensive.

Sapphire

When we think of sapphire, we mostly think of the deep blue stone, but in fact, this stone can come in many colors. This stone belonging to the corundum group of gemstones is hard to find and highly valued. Second only to diamonds on the hardness scale, sapphires can be more expensive than diamonds especially the most prized specimens.

Topaz

With it’s rich golden glow, Topaz is often used as a symbol for the setting sun. Though typically a golden brown, Topaz can also be found in blue, green, pink and red. This birthstone for November is a hard stone but can crack with a hard blow so care should be taken when wearing.

These are just a few of the many stones that are used in modern jewelry designs today. Some designs use just one stone or incorporate many different stones for more color and interest. Perhaps you have picked a favorite from the list above, or if you are like me, you love them all!

Set reasonable goals and target dates. Day to day living makes a lot of demands on you – your time, your physical and emotional energy, and your responsibilities. Do not set yourself up for defeat. Master one goal at a time and do not expect instant gratification. With the onset of the microwave, and then along comes the computer and the internet both giving ways to shortcut everything you do, trying to stay focused isn’t always easy.

Be the master of your thoughts. Dream big. A small goal takes just as much time and effort as a giant one. Think your goal through and keep a record of your ideas and a time schedule of what needs to be done and when. Seek help where needed.

Choose goals that you are passionate about. Motivation and inspiration are powerful forces that keep you moving toward your goals. Positive attitudes are also helpful. And of course, never forget your faith and the knowledge that a higher power is available to help you reach your goal. Remember: Nothing is easy, and everything takes time – lots of it. So, be patient -it eliminates the stress.

Stay healthy and practice taking care of yourself – first. When you aren’t feeling well, everyone around you is affected -your family, your friends and associates, and your business clients. Try to stay flexible and allow enough time to work on any project so you won’t have to rush. The old saying: “Haste makes waste,” is often true and may even cause a serious accident. And if you are a sole proprietor, when illness or accidents happen, this could mean a devastating loss of business income.

Don’t be afraid to take risks. Fear is an internal blockage that you impose on your thoughts. It is a way of making excuses for not dealing directly with your anxiety. Or, you may not wish to face the outcome. What if it doesn’t work out? Instead, replace your thoughts of fear with your own source of strength and let your inner support system guide you.

Keep a list of your qualities and values. What do you consider to be your most valuable asset? Do you know which of your qualities you need to make stronger? Make a list of those qualities and values that you think are the best you, those that make you feel most secure, and give you your highest self-esteem. Some of these may include: self-confidence, a forgiving nature, courage, being a good listener, trustworthy and honest, and a willingness to inspire others.

Keep your emotions under control. A peaceful attitude and an awareness of your surroundings go hand in hand with prosperity and success. When you are peaceful, your thoughts and actions come from a wide-awake place that is free of fear and confusion. You will see more clearly and act quickly. When you are at peace within yourself, you attract all that is good. You are more likely to bring success, happiness and prosperity to you. When you feel rich, you attract riches. And when you feel successful, you become successful.

Gemstones are one of the most precious substances known to mankind. Their worth alone is reason enough for us to care for them. A gemstone can cost a fortune and one scratch or impurity can ruin there value. As strong and durable as they may be, they can be scratched, dirtied and even broken if mishandled. There is not much we can do to care for them, but some precautions are necessary.

Cleaning gemstones requires a simple knowledge about gemstones. There are generally two kinds of gemstones; transparent and opaque. Transparent gemstones will make dust visible even if it gathers behind the stone on the ring or any form of jewelry that holds them. These are mostly single crystal stones and therefore application of water will not affect them too much. The use of a soaked cloth to clean the dust gather behind the stone is therefore not a bad move. You may even use a brush to clean the dust if you like.

However, opaque gemstones or organic gemstones are affected by water or any chemical substance. These are usually porous and will allow the water or chemical to flow inside the gemstone. Once inside they can either build up inside, make the stone loose its color or even cause it to crack. Therefore these kind of gemstones should be kept away direct contact with any kind of chemical in sprays, cosmetics and even from water.

There are advanced methods using certain technology to help clean gemstones. Expert jewelers and dealers are well-versed with all these methods and know how to clean each specific kind of gemstone. Therefore it is advised that you do not do the cleaning yourself and rather, have it done by someone who knows more about how to deal with them. If you can afford to buy a gemstone, why not spend a little more money on keeping them safe and clean?

Gemstones are hard materials. In contact with some other gemstone or the metals which contain them such as gold, they can crack each other or the metal. Therefore care must be taken with jewelry how it is kept and handled. Jewelry is expensive and valuable, especially those with precious gemstones in them, therefore they should be treated with care.

Gemstone is a mineral or stone suitable for use in jewelry after having been cut and polished. Available in virtually every color imaginable, gemstones can add the perfect compliment to your favorite pieces of jewelry.

A few general rules to caring for both precious and semi-precious gemstone jewelry:

* Amethyst jewelry should be stored out of direct sunlight. This beautiful gemstone can actually fade if exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

* When cleaning gemstone jewelry, consider a homemade remedy to help keep your accessories shining. A combination of soap and water can cleanse most gemstones safely, and may be less harsh than commercial jewelry cleaners.

* As you clean your gemstone jewelry, pay close attention to the utensil(s) that you choose. Avoid any brush or other product that features bristles, which may scratch the surface of your gemstone. Instead, use a soft cloth that has no rough areas which could potentially damage the stone.

* Before using any type of commercial jewelry cleaning product, always pay close attention to the directions. The reason is because not all cleaners are safe for all gemstones and, in order to maintain the beauty of your jewelry, it’s important to carefully read the instructions. Whether you are removing tarnish from your sterling silver gemstone jewelry or simply adding a little shine to your collection, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and consider alternative methods for cleaning your jewelry if necessary.

* When storing gemstone jewelry, make sure to place it in such a way that it will not easily come into contact with other pieces from your collection. If your jewelry were to get tumbled around, the gemstones could be scratched or even broken. Many natural gemstones are durable, but they can still be scratched and even damaged if not properly cared for. If you want to ensure the protection of your jewelry, store each piece in a small zip-tight jewelry bag when it is not being worn. If you are a wearer of sterling silver, this storage method will also help to slow the tarnishing process.
